Dr. Perez earned her Ph.D. in Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland. Her teaching and research interests lie at the intersections of the fields of Gender and Women’s Studies and Latinx Studies.  Professor Perez’s areas of focus are theories of race & racialization, Chicana feminist theory, and Latinx beauty cultures.  Her research explores Mexican and Mexican American beauty standards through an examination of social media practices.  She is also interested in colorism in Mexican American contexts and how race, color and gender intersect. Professor Perez’s approach to teaching and advising is holistic and student-centered with a focus on student success and empowerment.
