In the heat of a small-town Mississippi July, Carnelle Scott is rehearsing furiously for The Miss Firecracker Contest. She hopes a victory will salvage her tarnished reputation and allow her to leave town in a blaze of glory. Her path is complicated by the arrival of a few eccentric characters and mishaps left and right, but also filled with heartwarming moments and laughs.
