The Center for Economic Education Hosted the Southwest Regional Economics Challenge

The Center for Economic Education, under Center Director and Professor of Economics, Dr. Michael Spencer, hosted the 2023 Southwest Regional Economics Challenge at Minnesota State Mankato on April 5, 2023. During the event, teams of high school students demonstrate their knowledge of economics in three rounds of testing, after which the two highest scoring teams/schools from each division advance to a Quiz Bowl round, the winner of which advances to the State Economics Challenge. In collaboration with the Minnesota Council on Economic Education (MCEE), cash prizes, certificates, and plaques were given out during the fun event.
Here are the winning teams and the next challenge for them:
- LCWM will represent the MN Southwest Region in the David Ricardo Division of the MN State Economics Challenge.
- New Ulm will represent the MN Southwest Region in the Joan Robinson Division of the MN State Economics Challenge.
The MN State Competition of the Economics Challenge will be held in person at Securian Bank in St. Paul on April 19, 2023. Winners of the State Competition in each division then have the opportunity to advance to the National Economics Challenge, which will be held in person in New York City on May 20-22, 2023.
