Congratulations to the recipients of the 2024 HSS Advising Excellence Award, Dr. Andi Lassiter, Department of Psychology; and Dr. Jacqueline Arnold, Department of English.

The Advising Excellence Award is given annually to two outstanding advisors in recognition of their positive impact on students. Students nominate advisors who have made a lasting impact on their academic journey. The winning nominees not only helped guide students to meet their academic goals but demonstrated an incredible level of care by actively supporting students through challenges during their time here. These nominations highlight the importance of advising going beyond course selection, and that great advising is defined by our ability to help our students grow while here and beyond.

Dr. Jacqueline Arnold's nominations described her as a wonderful and resourceful advisor who responds quickly, going beyond her duties in advising students, offering career and life advice, and writing letters of recommendation. Thank you, Dr. Arnold, for always going above and beyond to help students succeed.

Nominators have their say:

Dr. Arnold deserves this award because she goes above and beyond her job as my assigned advisor by giving me advice on my future career, future higher education, and on life in general. She also wrote me a letter of recommendation for my job applications, and she did not have to do that.

Dr. Arnold has positively impacted me as a student each semester since she was assigned to be my advisor in spring 2021. She has given me not only the bare minimum information on what classes to take, but also career and life advice that has positively greatly impacted my life as a student, woman, and future teacher.

Jacqueline is a wonderful advisor, who responds in a timely manner and is resourceful. She even reaches out to freshman students for advising students, when she does not yet have to.
