Aaron Hoy, Ph.D., is an associate professor of sociology and director of the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research (CESR) at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Trained as a sociologist, Dr. Hoy does interdisciplinary research on family life in the US, with a particular focus on marriage and divorce among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. Most recently, Dr. Hoy's research has examined the experience and meaning of transitions in and out of marriage for LGBTQ+ people, as well as the marital attitudes and aspirations of unmarried LGBTQ+ young adults. His research has been published in numerous interdisciplinary journals, including Journal of Family Issues, Family Transitions, and Journal of Homosexuality, and his edited volume. The Social Science of Same-Sex Marriage, was published by Routledge in 2022. Although he has training and expertise in wide-ranging methodological approaches, he is particularly interested in qualitative methods, including in-depth interviewing, autoethnography, and interpretive forms of analysis. He currently serves at an editor at The Qualitative Report, the world's oldest multidisciplinary journal dedicated to qualitative methods and research.
