Academic Biography

Aaron Hoy, Ph.D., is an associate professor of sociology whose research and teaching focus on families, sexualities, sex and gender, and qualitative methods. In particular, Dr. Hoy's research has explored the experience and meaning of transitions in and out of marriage for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people as well as LGBTQ+ young adults' marital attitudes and aspirations. In addition, Dr. Hoy is now working on a qualitative research study examining cannabis use among parents of children under the age of 18. He is an active member of the Sociologists of Minnesota (SOM) and the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS), and he currently serves as Editor at The Qualitative Report (TQR), the world's oldest multidisciplinary journal focusing on qualitative research.
