Rose M. Hull Endowed Aging Studies Scholarship

Description: Through the Rose M. Hull endowment, the Aging Studies Program offers a scholarship each year for undergraduate or graduate Aging Studies students preparing for a career in the service of older adults. The scholarship supports tuition and fees for students who are presently working with elders or who wish to take courses relating to Aging Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Scholarship applicants must be planning to pursue a career related to the care of elders.

Amount: Each year, one scholarship of up to $1500.00 will be awarded.

Eligibility: All undergraduate and graduate students presently working with elders or who wish to take courses related to Aging Studies at MSU, Mankato, planning to pursue a career caring for elderly.

To apply, students will need to do the following:

  • First, provide a brief, typed statement describing your experience with long-term care, your educational and professional goals, and how this scholarship would further those goals.
  • Second, attach a resume which includes your extra- and co-curricular activities. Include past and current employment, and campus and community organizations in which you are active. If you have held positions of leadership or if you have received special recognitions or awards, please note.

The David and Darlene Janovy Summer Award for Research on Aging

Description: The Janovy Summer Award for Research on Aging is designed to support a graduate student to conduct aging related research under the supervision of a faculty mentor between May and August each year. The intent of the fellowship is to advance both the research-related skills of the student while providing them an opportunity to significantly contribute to the field of gerontology.

Amount: $3000 for the Student, and 1 paid extra duty day for the mentor.

Eligibility: All undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of major or program, who are currently enrolled at MSU, Mankato. Preference will be given to students pursuing the MS in Aging Studies program or in a graduate program otherwise leading to a career in service to older adults.

Timeline: The application for the Janovy Award opens February 2 for 2022. Full proposals should be submitted no later than April 1. The Research Award Committee for the Chesley Center on Aging Board of Directors will review the applications and recommend the recipient during the April Board meeting. The awardee and their mentor will be named and presented during a presentation at the annual Chesley Lecture.

Assistantships

Together, the Aging Studies Program and the Chesley Center on Aging normally offer one or more graduate assistantships each year to highly qualified graduate students in the Aging Studies MS program. Application forms may be obtained from the Graduate Assistantship page of the Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Human Resources website. In addition to the stipend, the assistantship carries partial tuition remission.

Financial Assistance

Most Minnesota State Mankato students depend on federal, state and/or private funding assistance to finance their college education.
