Biography:
Chuck Lewis is a tenured full professor who has been teaching full time at MSU since 1991. He served as department chair for six years and has served as department interim chair numerous times. He also taught at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication as an instructor and visiting associate professor. His professional media experience includes years of work as a newspaper reporter, photojournalist and professional photographer. Before becoming a media professional, Lewis worked a variety of jobs to put himself through school — from operating heavy equipment on a road crew to wielding knives in a meat-processing plant. Lewis has academic articles, book chapters and essays published in over a dozen media-research books and periodicals, and he has presented at dozens of regional, national and international academic conferences. His research has focused on media history, gender studies, visual media and media criticism. He and his wife live in Mankato and have a son, daughter-in-law and three granddaughters who also live in the area. Lewis is originally from Iowa, but please don’t hold that against him!
