Degrees

The Art Education program prepares students to teach visual arts in elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Minnesota State Mankato offers both the Bachelor of Art Education and the Masters of Teaching in Art Education.  The program blends philosophical and theoretical studies, studio practices, art history, historical and contemporary pedagogical practices as well as hands-on classroom experiences. We emphasize community engagement and awareness of our cultural values, beliefs and perceptions.

The students in the art education program work closely with mentor faculty and advisors in Art. We also collaborate with the College of Education. The degree culminates in a 16-week Student Teaching experience and application for teaching certification with the Minnesota Department of Education. This degree also offers exposure to a wide range of administrative roles utilized by artist educators and community programing.
