Biography

Educated in Illinois and Japan, Bradley Coulter worked as a graphic designer, fine press printer, and design educator in Seattle for 10 years before returning to the Midwest to pursue graduate studies, receiving MA and MFA degrees in Design from the University of Iowa. He is currently a professional designer and an associate professor of graphic design and typography at Minnesota State University, Mankato. His research is focused on exploring the psychological components of type design and use, and integrating those findings into historical and emerging applications of type to the page and the screen. His personal creative interests include printmaking and artisan printing techniques—especially letterpress—and photo manipulation. Bradley has exhibited his design and print work in numerous regional, national, and international exhibitions. He has served as an editor for a number of design and printing journals, and presented his research internationally. His professional design clients have included the American Institute of Graphic Arts, The University of Iowa, The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, the Minneopa Valley Press, and the Good Thunder Reading Series.
