Funding

Prospective and current students in the MFA program can apply for a Graduate Assistantship. Graduate and Teaching Assistants are awarded a stipend—$10,000 over the course of two semesters—and full tuition remission for up to 18 credits per academic year. Click here for more information.

Graduate Assistantships

For funding opportunities, we strongly recommend filing an application for a Graduate Student Assistantship in addition to your application to the MFA program. Students who are selected for admission into the program AND a graduate assistantship are awarded a stipend and full tuition remission for up to 18 credits per academic year.

The English Department offers graduate teaching assistantships and at stipends of approximately $10,000 over two semesters.

Awards & Grants

• The Nadine B. Andreas Teaching Assistant Award provides a student the opportunity to both teach creative writing for their two final semesters in the program and to present creative work with the Andreas Visiting Writer during our Good Thunder Visiting Writer Series.
• The Robert C. Wright Awards are intended to spotlight and encourage the creative work of Minnesota State University students. Winners receive financial support and have gone on to place book-length work with major publishers. Primary funding for the program comes from an endowment set up in memory of former Department of English professor and chair, Robert C. Wright.
