Financial Support for the School Psychology Doctoral Program
Students in the School Psychology Doctoral Program have a number of options for funding their graduate studies including graduate assistantships in the psychology department, graduate assistantships in other departments, work study, and federal student loans.
Departmental Graduate Assistantships
The school psychology doctoral program anticipates offering graduate assistantships to three or four applicants each year. These assistantships will be either half-time (10 hours per week) or full-time (20 hours per week) positions. Assistantships include a waiver up to 9-credits per semester and a monthly stipend. These assistantships will be awarded on a competitive basis to top applicants. Students should apply for graduate assistantships when they apply to the program. Information about applying for graduate assistantships at Minnesota State University can be found on the website for the College of Graduate Studies and Research.
Other University Graduate Assistantships
Assistantships are available in each of the academic departments and in residential life, student activities, financial aid, pre-major advising, International Student Office, Admissions, Women's Center, the Learning Center, the student union and other selected student affairs areas. Since assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis, applicants enhance the likelihood of receiving an assistantship by applying for several positions. A list of available positions is available from Human Resources. Recently, the University has made available several grants/assistantships for minority students. These awards provide support for minority students for a two-year period. Applicants who may qualify are urged to inquire and to indicate their interest at the time they submit their application to the program.
Loans and Work Study
Graduate students are also eligible for other types of financial aid such as guaranteed student loans and state and federal work-study employment.
