Additional Information for the MS, MA, & MFA Communication Studies Degree Programs
- A statement of personal and professional interests. In approximately 1-3 pages answer the following questions: Why do you want to pursue a degree in communication studies? How will this degree advance your professional and personal goals? Why do you want to study in our Department?
- A writing sample demonstrating your ability to organize and compose a sound analysis using evidence and external sources (preferably a research or term paper of 5-10 pages).
- Contact information for three individuals who will write letters of recommendation. The individuals should be qualified to judge your academic potential. The online application system will prompt you to enter their contact information. The writers will then receive an email with instructions on how to submit their letter.
- Optional: A resume or curriculum vitae.

Admission to the online MFA Program:
Admission is contingent on approval from the Graduate Coordinator, Director of Forensics, and the Assistant Director of Forensics in the Department of Communication Studies. Criteria used when granting admission:
- Significant experience as a forensic competitor and/or coach,
- Documented need to complete program online rather than on-campus,
- Documentation the student can complete the practicum course (CMST 630) with a forensic program the Director of Forensics approves as providing the necessary experiential components,
- Documentation of an “on-site supervisor” who can verify required hours for CMST 630, and
- Number of students currently enrolled in the online MFA program.
