About the Program
The Minnesota State Mankato Scholars Serving Time Program provides Associate of Arts Degrees to incarcerated people in Minnesota correctional facilities. The AA Degree Program presents an opportunity for incarcerated students to develop both advanced literacy and advanced numeracy. The program is designed to provide an avenue for students to develop skills in written and spoken expression, analytic reasoning, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new methods, techniques, and skill sets across a range of disciplines. Thus, courses offered in the program will maximize insightful classroom dialogue along with rigorous, engaging curriculum.
Central goals for students in this program include:
- Personal transformation and empowerment
- Improved abilities to meaningfully engage in and contribute to their communities inside and outside the prison
- The acquisition of skills and credentials that improve employment success and further educational pursuits
